£30,000 Investment at Stanley Sports Hub as New LED Floodlights Installed
Accrington Stanley Community Trust has invested a further £30,000 at Stanley Sports Hub to upgrade to new LED Floodlights on the 3G Pitch.
After securing a grant for 70% of the costs from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation, the new floodlights will improve energy efficiency and help the environment.
Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been awarded the grant as part of the Football Foundation’s LED Floodlight Fund to support the upgrading of metal halide (‘halogen’) floodlights on Football Foundation-funded floodlit 3G pitches to LED floodlights. LEDs help to reduce energy consumption.
This will save around £8,000 per year with a typical usage. The upfront costs associated with installing LEDs is a barrier for many organisations but that’s where the Floodlight Fund comes in.
Martin Fearon, CEO at Accrington Stanley Community Trust said:
“We’re delighted to have received this grant from the Football Foundation which has allowed us to upgrade our halogen floodlights at Stanley Sports Hub to brand new LED floodlights.
The new floodlights will provide us with a cost saving of up to £8,000 per year, as well as helping the environment. They will also give the users of the site a better playing experience with the latest technology in LED lighting used to enhance the lighting performance.’’

Community Trust awarded £100,000 grant from Sky Bet EFL Building Foundations Fund
The Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been awarded a £100,000 grant from the Sky Bet EFL Building Foundations Fund for the newly-constructed 3G pitch at the Stanley Sports Hub, meaning more groups of every age and ability can now use the excellent facilities!
Seven EFL club community organisations have received a grant in the second phase of funding, which aims to improve the quality of life within communities through the access to, and quality of, football provisions and initiatives.
Applications covering projects across a range of categories, such as improving local sporting facilities or promoting the physical and social benefits of the game, were considered, and decided upon by a panel of industry experts, including Sky Bet ambassador Jeff Stelling, in May.
The £6m Building Foundations Fund, which represents the largest multi-year sponsor-backed fund dedicated solely to community activity, will give all 72 EFL clubs another chance to bid for grants of up to £100,000 to invest in ongoing programmes or to develop new initiatives in the new year.
The EFL and Sky Bet agreed a record extension last year that saw the sports betting brand continue as the League’s title partner until the end of the 2028/29 campaign.
The commitment to a community fund was an integral part of the extension agreement.
Summer 2024 HAF project
This Summer we have once again teamed up with Hyndburn Borough Council to ensure that children who receive free school meals have easy access to free lunches and sports activities over the school holidays. Each delivery day will include a healthy lunch and a day of activities including, football, sports, arts & crafts, games, competitions, gardening and lots more.
The Holiday Activities & Food Programme (H.A.F) is a government funded project run through local councils and supported by local providers to provide what’s needed to help the community. The project aims to make free holiday course places available for children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals during the school holidays aged 6-16.
Our HAF Programme will run Monday – Thursday between 29th July – 22nd August 9am-3pm.
Our project will take place at Stanley Sports Hub, Thorneyholme Road, BB5 6BD from 9-3PM. The children attending will have access to a healthy lunch and sports sessions led by professional coaches in a safe and fun environment.
The project is vital in supporting local families during the school holidays which, for many, is a difficult time due to increased costs and bills. The activities the children can get involved in with the H.A.F Programme are great for developing skills in a friendly and social environment.
Lee Walsh commented, ‘it’s brilliant that we are able to offer this support to local families that can find school holidays a difficult time due to increased food bills or childcare cost. HAF has allowed us to increase our offer to those that need it most. Holiday clubs can have a positive impact on children by enabling them to learn new skills, socialise and enjoy healthy food in a safe environment’.
The project follows successful HAF projects ran over the last 3 years, seeing us engage with over 250 families.
To register your child please fill out the form below that will automatically register your child for the full 4 day project (once you have filled out the form, your place is booked)
