Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT) has announced the appointment of former AFC Bournemouth winger Marc Pugh as its newest ambassador.
The move underscores the Trust’s commitment to enhancing community engagement and promoting active lifestyles across the Hyndburn region.
Pugh was born in Bacup, Lancashire, and enjoyed a distinguished career including 9 years at AFC Bournemouth, where he was no stranger to community-focused initiatives. Previously, he served as an ambassador for the partnership between AFC Bournemouth and Care South, where he engaged with residents through activities like chair football sessions, demonstrating his dedication to fostering connections through sport.
After hanging up his boots, Pugh launched his own business called The Foodie Footballer (https://thefoodiefootballer.com/), combining his love for nutrition and sport. Through the platform, he shares recipes, cooking tutorials, and wellness tips designed to promote healthy living, particularly among young athletes and football fans. The brand has grown in popularity thanks to his accessible and engaging approach to food and fitness, reinforcing his passion for helping others live healthier lives.

Martin Fearon, CEO of Accrington Stanley Community Trust, expressed enthusiasm about Pugh’s appointment, stating, “Marc’s experience and passion for community engagement align perfectly with our mission to use the power of football to improve lives in Hyndburn.”
Pugh’s role will involve supporting various Trust initiatives, including disability football sessions, educational programmes, and the success of the Trust’s £4m Stanley Sports Hub facility.
The Stanley Sports Hub, a cornerstone of the Trust’s activities, has recently undergone significant expansion. In 2023, a £1 million extension was completed and in 2024 a £200,000 3G Cage was constructed, enhancing facilities to better serve local community groups and sports clubs.
Looking ahead, Stanley Sports Hub has been designated as an official training ground for UEFA Euro 2028, further solidifying its role as a central hub for sports and community programmes.
Pugh’s appointment is expected to bolster the Trust’s efforts in delivering inclusive sports programmes and educational opportunities, particularly for underrepresented groups in the area. His involvement is seen as a significant step towards strengthening the ties between Accrington Stanley and the local community.
Accrington Stanley Community Trust will be announcing further ambassadors over the coming weeks.
